    So often, we're looking for a sense of control in some way—If we spend money, we seemingly have control over fulfilling our desires. If we restrict our spending, we seemingly have control over the money in our bank accounts.

    But the truth is… We can't control a damn thing.

    You or I could get into a car accident tomorrow and rack up $200k in medical bills. You get laid off and blow through your carefully-preserved 6 months of savings in 3 months flat. We can prepare extensively—but we cannot control outcomes.

    And as for desires... How many times have you purchased something that you thought would CHANGE YOUR LIFE, and then found yourself feeling empty after a few weeks? Only to just start the search again, and get wrapped into another hyperfixation that leads to spending more $, on repeat?

    Our fulfillment comes from INSIDE OF OURSELVES. And only inside of ourselves can we find the answer to what it is we truly need. What our soul is craving. That won't happen by buying the shiniest, newest thing.

    That won't happen by spending $50k on a new car, if we're buying the new car to meet some external expectation of who we're "supposed" to be, rather than identifying and embodying who we are.

    We create internal security through identity work: The process of discovering, uncovering, and celebrating who we are at our core, beyond cultural, societal, and familial expectations.

    We create internal security by de-shaming our spending, so that we can witness our actions with compassion. We're not able to understand or decipher the intelligence of our actions when shame is present. We're unable to create change when shame is present, either.

    We create internal security by learning how to regulate our nervous system. By practicing sitting with discomfort. And getting REALLY f*cking good at sifting through the layers to ask ourselves, "What is this telling me about what I really need?"
